Summer Job Opportunities on the Harbour

Note: Deadline for applications is April 20, 2023. Applications received after April 20, 2023 will be kept on file should additional opportunities arise. Applications will be destroyed at the end of the 2023 season.

Join us for our 5th summer season on Halifax’s only electric tour boat!!

We are hiring guides to accompany guests on one hour tours of the harbour as well as shifts in our booth at Sackville Landing. We run May 20th to end of October and start with a few tours per day at the beginning of the season, adding tours as demand increases.

As a guide, your main focus is providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere onboard. We do not believe in scripted tours preferring instead to facilitate conversations and allow guests the opportunity to ask questions and let us know what they are interested in. You will be expected to know about the features and history of the harbour and city and be able to speak to this. You will have guidance and support with this. You will be expected help our social media effort.

Your best asset is your ability to be comfortable when speaking with diverse people from all over the world and also comfortable with silence when indicated. Because our boat is so quiet travellers have a sometime rare opportunity to chat with other guests and you can facilitate these connections.

We believe, to do more than 3 tours a day diminishes the quality of the tour as not only are you providing information, you are actively listening for cues from guests about their interests or even the need to just enjoy a quiet time on the harbour. For this reason, it can be difficult to offer full time hours so we see this as a job to fill in around other jobs and we strive to accommodate other schedules.

You would be expected to arrive 30 min before first tour departs to be sure boat is clean and ready. If you work at end of day you will be there another 30 min to help Captain tarp the boat at end of the day. In the booth you will be speaking with guests, selling seats and updating the daily availability board.
Pay rate is above minimum wage to start and if your tours are going well there will be a raise mid season. We pay a stipend for shifts cancelled due to poor weather conditions.
